The National perform “The Rains of Castamere” from Game of Thrones

Worlds are colliding! Being that I just finished the A Song of Ice and Fire series a month ago, this couldn’t have come at a better time. The National were tapped to perform the song “The Rains of Castamere” from the ASOIAF series soundtrack for Game of Thrones season 2. Incredible. Now if we can only get an Animal Collective to do “The Bear and the Maiden Fair."

Yellow Ostrich announce tour, new tour-only album

While Yellow Ostrich’s new tour dates are good news (Louisville!), the real magic here is that they’ve got a new 6-song release to sell at all these shows. Ghost is going to be available digitally (Oct 23) and on vinyl exclusive to these shows. So if you want the new album/EP/thing by one of the best indie rock acts going, get your butt down to these venues!

New rock tracks

Honestly it’s been a while since I really listened to Clinic. I know I heard last year’s record Free Reign, but I didn’t spend much time with it. As such, I was excited to see them, but couldn’t remember what songs I was excited to hear. Turns out I was excited for everything once their set started. I loved the immediate gratification of their rock tracks like “Shopping Bag” and “I.P.C. Subeditors Dictate Our Youth,” but maybe the best moments were during their psych grooves on “Seamless Boogie Woogie BBC 10pm” and “See Saw.” Seeing them felt a lot like seeing Radiohead: decades worth of varied material from which to draw to create a deep performance. These guys know how to craft a set that feels more like a journey than a recital.
